Selling a Home While Buying Another? It’s More Than a Real Estate Transaction.
One of the most challenging moves a family can make is selling their current home while simultaneously buying and relocating to another one.
I recently had the opportunity to help a family sell their home in the Bay Area and relocate to Suisun City, CA, a growing community that offers a different pace of life while still keeping them connected to the Bay Area.
What people don’t always see behind the scenes is everything that has to happen to make a move like this work:
Preparing and rehabbing the home before going on the market
Cleaning out years of belongings and getting the property ready to show
Coordinating the sale timeline with the purchase timeline
Negotiating rent-backs when additional time is needed after closing
Managing inspections, repairs, appraisals and negotiations
Coordinating movers, packing and the physical relocation
Making sure the new home is ready when the old home is sold
Managing deadlines, paperwork and unexpected challenges along the way
And then there’s the emotional side.
Selling a home where a family has created years of memories while simultaneously buying a new home and starting the next chapter can be stressful. There are a lot of moving parts—and sometimes one small delay can affect the entire timeline.
That’s where experience, preparation and having a plan from the beginning can make all the difference.
